This just in folks....
As of this writing...it appears to be an evening of defeats for Corporate America tonight in northern California!
Starting up north and working our way down....we will first look at the D.A. recall in Humboldt Co. that was instigated by Pacific Lumber in an effort to avoid being sued by the county:
MEASURE F- RECALL OF DISTRICT ATTORNEY
Total
Number of Precincts 130
Precincts Reporting 130 100.0 %
Times Counted 50498/79703 63.4 %
Total Votes 50180
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
YES 19464 38.79%
NO 30716 61.21%
~*~ It appears there will be NO recall
And in what could be the most important issue on the ballot, Mendocino Measure H, the attempt to ban the growing of genetically modified organisims throughout the county:
Measure H: Ban on cultivation of genetically modified crops
(completed precincts 98 of 98) More than 50% to pass
Yes
14839
56.51%
No
11420
43.49%
~*~ This is a biggie folks! Despite the fact that CropLife America, formed by a consortium of chemical companies from outside the county, donated $600,000 to defeat the measure compared to the $75,000 acrued by the YES group....THEY LOST! Fire one up and pass it around ....this is a true cause for celebration! I'm sure their lawyers are furiously working on a way around it even as I write....but tonight we enjoy a satisfying victory! Take THAT, you meanies!
And....to complete our triumphant victory dance, we take a look at our local Sonoma Co. issue of banning the use and sale of fireworks in this county of tall grassland:
Measure F - Santa Rosa
Prohibit Fireworks Completed Precincts: 110 of 110
Vote Count Percentage
Yes 23,243 57.4%
No 17,269 42.6%
~*~ While I definatly feel Grinch-like in my support of the fireworks ban, it was the only wise thing to do in this hot & dry enviorment. Some non-profit organizations are bitching and moaning about the drop in income they'll have to endure since they're the local suppliers. But the REAL profit makers on these transactions are the firework factories based in Nevada....who donated the money and organized the comunity who opposed the ban.
So... those were the big three issues that HAD to be won despite the organized opposition of national and even INTERnational companies.
