The Young'n's opinion
The ever-changing world: From our local newsrag, the Santa Rosa Press Democrat...
RP students protest 'liberal bias,' push conservative agenda >"Rancho Cotate High School students who believe they are being "brainwashed by the liberal bias" in their classrooms are banding together to bring a conservative agenda of God, guns and country to the Rohnert Park campus."
~That's quite an agenda. God, guns and country....they seem to go together like a bad country-western tune. "Just give me-e-e...weed, whites an-d wine....and I'll show you a sign...that I'd be will-in...to keep movin'.." -Little Feat song, Dallas Alice
Couple that article with this next letter to the editor and we begin to see a pattern developing:
EDITOR: There are some heroes in this country, and there are some wimps. The heroes are the ones who go and fight for their country and for someone else's country. The wimps are the ones who say they are more courageous by refusing to go. I quote Ron Deutsch's letter on Nov. 22, "It takes courage to go, but it would take far more courage for them to say 'Hell no, we won't go.'" What I wonder is if this man ever fought for our country, or if he was one of the "chicken hawks" that backed down.
I'm only 14; I've never lived through the 1960s. But to say, "Heck no we won't go," would be resorting back to the old hippy days, and we know those times never worked. I think what most people don't realize is that those people, who they think are less courageous, gave them the right to diss our president for not fighting the war and the right to turn around and say that joining the army now would be in vain.
It doesn't take courage to back down; it takes cowards.

~DearLeah; Only 14, ay? Not only didn't you live through the 60s...you didn't live through the 80s! Now THERE'S a decade that "didn't work". Our own government traded arms for drugs. In fact, it was just about this day in 1986...November 25 to be exact....that "the Iran-Contra affair errupted as President Ronald Reagan revealed that profits from secret arm sales to Iran had been diverted to Nicaraguan rebels" There were no hippies involved to the best of knowledge.
Now, besides the hippy crack....my favorite part of your letter has to be this: "What I wonder is if this man ever fought for our country, or if he was one of the "chicken hawks" that backed down. " EEE-YOW...I hate to take advantage of your inexperience, a la Michael Jackson, but you've just perfectly described the personal history of the current President of the United States. Just so you're clear on the definition....a "chicken hawk" was/is someone who supports the war but dodges servitude. A "hippy" who won't support the war doesn't get labeled as ANY kind of "hawk". The 60s saw the reinstatement of involuntary servitude and refusing to go or cooperate with the war effort DID often take more courage than blindly following orders. Take it from the Brahma....I DID live through the 60s. Despite your claim, "and we know those times never worked"...they happened to work just fine until the Nixon regime infiltrated the scene to begin screwing things up! I could go on and on, but I fear I already have. You should consider transfering to Rancho Cotate H.S.
