U.S. Fights War on Some Drugs!
Well folks, we can all sleep well tonight with the knowledge that the Federal Government has the time and resources to send a peaceful 58 year old father and husband away for a possible 20 year prison term! You may be wondering what grievous crime this dangerous criminal commited that would warrant a stay in a Federal Penitentiary for the same length of time as the American Taliban, John Walker Lind, who took up arms against the United States. It must be despicable!
Ed Rosenthal had the nerve (seriously... it takes Nerve!) to help sick & dying people and their caregivers obtain and grow a substance that makes them feel well enough to continue fighting their diseases. It's called marijuana and it grows easily in the U.S., despite the well funded advertisements that claim smoking it will contribute to terrorism! (My God, does anyone really believe that?) The truth is, terrorism was funded by anti-drug efforts! In the days before the attack on the World Trade Center, the Taliban was an ally to the Bush administation in the war on drugs! The State Department and the DEA certified that the Taliban had effectively eradicated opium production in the sections of Afghanistan that they had control over. They rewarded them with a 40 million dollar gift! Less than 4 months later they reigned terror down on innocent New Yorkers (if innocent could temporarily be used to describe NYers!) So it wasn't the "dopers" that funded terrorism...it was the anti-dopers!
In fact, now that the Taliban has lost control, opium production is skyrocketing to levels never seen before! Who's behind the sudden rise in production? Why, our latest ally, the Northern Alliance! So apparently.....smoking opium actually funds our allies against the Taliban! Smoke a bowl for Jesus! Just look at the scumbags we've had to crawl into bed with in this stupid fight! The pitiful attempt to link drug use to be as bad as terrorism is another way to keep us in a panic. When America panics, Bush's popularity rises!
But back to the latest fiasco.... Rosenthal was deputized as an official officer of the city of Oakland, CA., a state where the medicinal use of marijuana was voted in by a large margin. He was recognized in this capacity for the expressed purpose of providing this substance to people in need. He acted on behalf of the city of Oakland. Despite this fact, the Federales swooped in to destroy the operation. Did they charge the City of Oakland with disregarding the federal ban on marijuana? No. That would have been a landmark states rights issue, which the Republicans normally approve of....but not this time.
It's the people of the United States against Ed Rosenthal instead. 'The people" want their drugs to be consummed in a different form. Drink up America! Smoke bad (except tobacco)...Drink good! There was an anti-drug ad during the Superbowl that showed a family torn apart by a teen pregnancy that's obviously the result of the marijuana session that loosened her inhibitions. A few minutes later we saw numerous beer ads that glorified getting drunk & stupid, with twin babes in bikinis striking a pose among the hearty revelers...women tearing off each other's clothes during a fight over "tastes great or less filling"...
Jon Carrol, in his column from Jan.30 states:
Do women get pregnant because their inhibitions have been lowered by too much alcohol? Oh, never. Beer is good and fun and legal. Pot is bad and dangerous, which is why it's illegal. Smoke pot: lots of consequences. Drink beer: no consequences." He goes on to say, "Alcohol is probably the most dangerous recreational drug known. It harms the body -- brain, liver, pancreas -- more than heroin. It impedes motor reflexes more than cocaine. And as for pot -- well, ask any cop whether he'd rather arrest someone stoned on pot or loaded on booze......AND AS FOR families -- you want heartbreak, look at the families who have fathers or brothers or daughters in prison for drug-related offenses. The drugs didn't destroy those families, the government did -- the same government that finds a useful distinction between alcohol and marijuana."
If you'd like to help Mr. Rosenthal....or the next the next hapless victim...click on the "donate" icon, either in the post under this, or in the left sidebar. Thank you.
One more thing before I cash in for the night....when a biker or a trucker takes a chemical to help stay awake on a long drive, they're doing speed! Crank! Meth! when an Air Force pilot does it....he's taking "GO" pills! Doesn't that sound innocent? Go pills! A stroke of marketing genius. They're just "Go" pills! Is it considered abuse when they get so hopped up on "Go pills" that they mistake a group of Canadian soldiers for the enemy and drop bombs on them, killing four?
