The Parties You Missed...
I'm sitting here waiting for our friends from the Burning Man Celebration to show up. They've gone there for the last four years and come here afterwards to clean up and mellow out. If you're not familiar with Burning Man, I'll just say for now that it's a wild party for 30,000 in the high desert (no pun intended) of Nevada. I'll write more about that at a latter date. But let me tell you about the other party you (and I) missed.
I'm only aware of it because a friend worked the party as a hired hand of sorts. I swear it's all true. It was a birthday celebration for what I call a "trust fund baby", with Standard Oil money. He turned his vast property in the coastal hills of California into a mini Woodstock for the weekend, complete with tents set up on platforms and major music acts. The whole affair was catered, of course. The main performance on Saturday night was Crosby, Stills and Nash, accoustic. ( I have the bootlegged tape!). The opening act for the evening was Mickey Hart's band. The backup band for "Prince" also played. There were around 400 guests.
Now, for the question that begs to be asked.....How much did it cost?
The answer: 3 million dollars. That's 3, with six zeros after it. 3,000,000 dollars. Happy birthday.
He was originally going to donate all the tents to the Red Cross when it was over, but he had such a good time, he kept them to do it again every year. It's good to be the King.....
Me?......I sat home and watched the "Law & Order" marathon this weekend.
